Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman Rhys Hoskins was carted off the field on Monday after suffering a left knee injury while fielding a ground ball.

The incident occurred in the top of the fourth inning during a game against the San Diego Padres. Hoskins was attempting to field a ground ball hit by San Diego’s Tommy Pham when he twisted his left knee as he tried to make the play.

Hoskins immediately fell to the ground in pain and remained there for several minutes as athletic trainers rushed to his side. He was eventually helped onto a cart and taken off the field, with X-rays later revealing no structural damage.

The injury was a tough blow for the Phillies, who have been dealing with a number of injuries to key players this season. Hoskins, in particular, has been a crucial part of the team’s lineup, batting .229 with 24 home runs and 68 RBI on the year.

The 28-year-old first baseman has been a consistent producer for the Phillies since making his debut in 2017, posting a .244 batting average with 105 home runs and 307 RBI over his career.

While the extent of Hoskins’ injury is still unknown, the Phillies will be hoping for good news as they continue to push for a playoff berth. The team currently sits just one game back of the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves.

In the meantime, the Phillies will likely turn to Brad Miller or Luke Williams to fill in at first base while Hoskins is sidelined. Both players have seen time at the position this season and could provide the Phillies with some solid production in Hoskins’ absence.

Overall, the injury to Hoskins is a tough loss for the Phillies, but the team will need to rally together in order to continue their playoff push and stay competitive in the highly-competitive NL East.
