Giannis Antetokounmpo injury update: Bucks star doubtful for 2021 NBA Finals rematch with Suns on Sunday

Giannis Antetokounmpo injury update Bucks star doubtful for 2021 NBA

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the reigning two-time MVP of the NBA and star of the Milwaukee Bucks, is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s NBA Finals rematch with the Phoenix Suns due to a knee injury.

The injury occurred during the Bucks’ loss to the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Antetokounmpo left the game in the second quarter after appearing to tweak his right knee while attempting a layup. He was later seen on the sidelines with an ice pack on the knee.

The Bucks have not released any further details on the injury, but head coach Mike Budenholzer said after the game that the team will “take it day-by-day” and that Antetokounmpo will be re-evaluated on Saturday.

The Bucks and Suns will meet for the first time since the 2021 NBA Finals, when the Suns defeated the Bucks in six games. Antetokounmpo was a key player in that series, averaging 25.7 points, 13.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

The Bucks will hope to have their star player back in the lineup for Sunday’s game, but if he is unable to play, it will be a major blow to the team’s chances of winning. With Antetokounmpo out, the Bucks will have to rely on the likes of Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez to lead the way.

The Bucks will continue to monitor Antetokounmpo’s status throughout the weekend and provide updates as they become available.
