The World Baseball Classic is returning in 2023 after a four-year hiatus. The international baseball tournament is expected to be bigger and better than ever before, with 20 teams competing for the title of world champion.
The WBC is set to take place from March 9 to March 23, 2023, across multiple venues in the United States, with the final match scheduled to be held at Marlins Park in Miami.
The 20 teams participating include the 16 teams from the 2017 edition of the tournament, as well as four new teams – the Netherlands, China, the Dominican Republic, and Israel.
The teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round, which will be played as a double-elimination tournament. The teams that make it to the third round will play a single-elimination tournament.
Fans can enjoy most of the WBC games on ESPN and MLB Network as the TV channels have got the broadcasting rights for the games. There is also a live stream available on the ESPN app, which is accessible to anyone with a cable subscription.
Some of the standout matches in the opening round include a clash between Japan and the Dominican Republic, and a game between the United States and Mexico. The Netherlands and South Korea, both of whom finished in the top four in the 2017 tournament, will also be competing in the opening round.
The second round of the tournament is set to take place on March 13 and 14, with the third round taking place from March 19 to 21. The semifinals will be played on March 22, with the final scheduled for March 23.
